Hello. My name is Kasimir Pihlasviita (formerly Koistinen). This page is a short introduction to my thoughts and deeds.
Bytes are the building blocks of new media. One byte is eight bits, zeros or ones, and can represent 256 different values. Simple, and yet digital technology has revolutionised human communications.
I am an information architect and artist. I make bytes do things.
Recently those things have been mostly web sites and web based applications - I've worked also on sound, video and animations, but code and concepts fascinate me more nowadays.
Body is the interface with which human beings communicate with the rest of the reality. It sends and receives touches, gestures and words.
I am a qualified masseur. My education emphasised the importance of psychological aspects alongside the physiological ones; later I looked into oriental medical traditions, and got more convinced of the importance of seeing the whole. Also I started to understand that massage was not much different from any other form of communication.
I've also done some university studies on communication: semiotics, literature, and journalism.
Art is communication too, that I know, but what kind of communication is much more debatable question.
I've worked more or less within the arts institutions' boundaries: performancens and installations with groups ultra 3 and sin ø; with band Aivoaula (Brain Lounge) therapy art happening Alkumeri (Primal Sea) and some other performances.
All you need is love, they said. Untrue. You need respect, give and get.
